Desert Festival - Rajasthan

Once a year in winters and on the middle of the continually rising and falling stark yellow sands of the great Thar Desert, the empty sands around Jaisalmer come alive with the brilliant colour, music and laughter of the Desert Festival. The festival is organised by the tourist authorities as tourist entertainment around January-February.

Elephant Festival - Rajasthan

Gangaur Festival - Rajasthan

Gangaur is one of the most important local festival in Rajasthan. In some form or the other it is celebrated all over Rajasthan. “gan” is a synonym for Lord Shiva and “gauri” or “gaur” stands for goddess parvati, the heavenly consort of lord Shiva. Gangaur celebrates the union of the two and is a symbol of conjugal and marital happiness.

Mewar Festival - Rajasthan

Udaipur was ruled by Sisodia dynasty for 1200 years. Under the reign of Mewar kingdom, it reached a glorious peak. There is an intriguing story related to the foundation of this city of Rajasthan. The legend says that Maharana Udai Singh the founder of this city was once on a hunting adventure and chanced upon a sacred man.

Nagaur Fair - Rajasthan

This eight days fair held every year during the month of Jan-Feb, is popularly known as the Cattle fair and is the second largest in Rajasthan. Nagaur Town is the most picturesque of Rajput townships. Nagaur is a sea of animals, trading over 70,000 bullocks, camels and horses every year. The bullocks are known for their fleetness. Not only are the animals lavishly decorated, even their owners flaunt wearing colourful turbans and long moustaches.

Pushkar Fair & Festival - Rajasthan

When it comes to celebrating fairs and festivals, there is no matching the pace of Rajasthan. One of the most popular and colorful fairs of the Thar Desert is the Pushkar fair, which begins on Kartik Shukla Ekadashi and goes on for five days till Kartik Purnima. The Pushkar Lake provides an ideal setting to the Pushkar Camel fair. The time of the fair coincides with the bright half of the moon during the months of October-November.
